During the recently concluded Taipei Game Show (TPGS), representatives from Taipei Computer Association (TCA) and Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA) signed a memorandum in order to forge a partnership between the two biggest game shows in Asia, Taipei Game Show and Tokyo Game Show (TGS).
Indie Game Award (IGA) is one of the highlights of this year’s Taipei Game Show. The aim is to recognize outstanding indie game developers around the world and showcase them in a global arena. This year, a total of 86 games are competing while only 22 games are included in the final round to compete for awards in eight categories including Best Narration, Best Visual Art, Best Audio, Best Design, Best Innovation, Best VR Game, Best Mobile Game, and IGA Grand Prix. Here are this year’s winners:
IGA Grand Prix & Best Visual Art: Old Man’s Journey
Developer: Broken Rules Interactive Media
Country of Origin: Austria
The double-award winner “Old Man’s Journey” is as much a game as an illustrated book, which tells a story of life experiences. Though brief, the game brings us a story with deep meanings of life. Without a single word, it evokes rich and powerful emotions through sounds and images, while preserving a smooth and whole gameplay experience. An old man with furrowed brow embarks on a lonely journey of memories. As a third person, the player gets to see through the eyes of the old man, touch the objects along the way on his journey, and take a peek at the memories he holds dearly. Time never ends, but life does. What would be the last scene you remember when your life reaches its destination?
The Asia’s leading indie game festival will be happening in a couple of days at Taipei Game Show 2018 (TGS). 180 indie game developers from different regions of the world including Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, China, South Korea, U.S., Poland, Switzerland, Australia, Spain, and Austria will be showcased in Indie Game Fiesta of B2B Zone and Indie House of B2C Zone.
The Indie Game Award, an exclusive contest for indie game developers, is now in its fourth iteration. It has grown considerably from last year in terms of both number participating countries and number of participating games. A total of 86 titles from 21 countries joined this year’s contest and a total 22 titles have made it to the final round of selection. The finalists have been selected from across four major platforms: PC, console, mobile, and VR.
The judges for the awards are being recruited from domestic and overseas scenes and they are mostly gaming-focused senior journalists, game publishers, and game producers. The awards are divided into eight categories: Best Narration, Best Audio, Best Visual Art, Best Game Design, Best Innovation, Best VR Game, Best Mobile Game, and IGA Grand Prix. The winners will be judged based on game design, story & plot, visual art, music & sound effects, and innovative game play.
Here are the 22 finalists! We’ve also taken the liberty of the tracking down the gameplay trailers of each of them! Just click on the game to find our more about them!
