Ruby Riot certainly has been making a lot of noise these past few weeks after making her debut in WWE’s blue brand, Smackdown, with former NXT talents Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan. Fans are more and more excited for the upcoming first ever Women’s Royal Rumble since all three of them announced their entry.
Ruby is no stranger to wrestling fans as she was active in the indie scene for a number of years before joining NXT and taking part in epic matches against Asuka, Ember Moon and Nikki Cross. But there are more interesting things about her and we have put together a list of what we think you should know about this punk rock styled wrestler.
1. She is a Dog Lover
It shouldn’t surprise anyone that Ruby Riot is also a dog lover just like the majority of us. Her Instagram account is a big evidence of how much she adores her sharpei as she’s constantly posting cute photos with “doggo”.
2. Her Tattoos are Linked to her Childhood
Ruby is from Edwardsburg, Michigan and she came from a financially challenged family. Her parents could only afford to provide her with a handful of toys and one of her favorites was a jigsaw puzzle depicting Albuquerque, New Mexico, with the city’s famed hot air balloon festival illustrated across the sky.
She had a hot air balloon tattooed on her thigh to remind her of her childhood dream to visit the Albuquerque.
3. Rock Climbing is one of her secret talents
It’s no secret that Ruby is incredibly athletic but it came as a surprise to some of her fans when she shared her rock climbing passion. In one of her interviews, she revealed that not only that she loves rock climbing but she was also an instructor during her college days. Now, that’s something WWE can capitalize on by having her on a ladder match to showcase her natural skills.
4. She’s been a Champion for Various Promotions
Ruby Riot has accomplished a lot through her short but eventful 7 year wrestling career. She has picked up championships in several promotions including All American Wrestling, Revolution Championship Wrestling, Ohio Valley Wrestling, and SHIMMER Women Athletics.
Though unsuccessful to get the title in NXT, she was involved in several impressive title matches against Asuka during the Empress of Tomrrow’s unbeatable reign proving that Ruby is also main event material.
5. Her WWE Name is Inspired by a Song
“The name Ruby Riot was very much inspired by my punk rock background,” she said on an interview with Miami Herald. “There is a song by Rancid that is inspired by a Ruby name. Riot, obviously, when you think of punk rockers, mosh pits, riots, everything like that.”
“[Ruby Riot] is me. All of it,” she said. “Everything you see is me. Every bit of it. It’s just turned up a couple of notches.”
