5 Things You Should Know About Nia Jax

There’s something very enticing about one of the newest female Superstars from NXT despite her lack of wrestling experience compared to the others who were called up during the draft earlier this year. We’ve listed down a few reasons why WWE Raw’s Nia Jax is certainly not like most girls.

1. Basketball was Her First Love

Nia who is 6’2 started playing basketball in high school. She was part of the basketball team in Carlsbad High School and she eventually got a scholarship from Palomar College in California. She helped her team get the Pacific Coast Conference Championship in 2002 before she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.

2. She was a Plus Size Model

Nia’s modeling career started when she was attending an event in California and one of the judges approached her to offer a plus size modeling gig. According to Nia, being a plus size model made her believe in herself and she aims to influence other girls who are experiencing insecurities because of weight issues.

3. She is Part of the Famous Anoa’i Family

Nia Jax came from a very sports minded family. Her brothers played football in college while some of her cousins like The Rock, Roman Reigns and The Usos are very successful in wrestling. She’s one of the latest from quite an impressive list of Samoans who made it big in the wrestling business. It was noted that The Rock’s match against John Cena in Wrestlemania 28 inspired her to try her luck in the industry. She trained under Afa’s wrestling school before signing with NXT.

4. She’s Dating a Former NXT Superstar

If you’ve been following Nia on social media you would have probably noticed that she openly posts about her boyfriend of more than one year – Josh Woods. Josh who’s a former National Wrestling Champion and 4 time All American got released from NXT last July. He is now currently wrestling for Evolve.

5. She was Involved in a Serious Accident That Could Have Ended Her Budding Wrestling Career

In August 2014, Nia and her aunt  Ata Maivia-Johnson were driving home from an annual charity event when a drunk driver hit their car. No one died in the incident but Nia and The Rock’s mom both suffered serious injuries. Luckily, Nia was able to fully recover and she was able to go back to her training in NXT. The other party involved was eventually charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
