The Support Sniper Is Real! Introducing the new Overwatch hero, Ana.

There has been fan speculation for months following the release of the highly-popular first person hero shooter, Overwatch that a new character was coming very very soon.

Using the various hidden easter eggs and in-games hints, clever fans were able to come up  with a a few theories revolving around the myth of a female “Support Sniper”.

Today, She is myth no more. Meet Ana!

From what we gather, Ana’s Primary Weapon is a Biotic Sniper Rifle that fires long range darts that either restores allies’ health or damages enemies. Ana can also throw Biotic Grenade which heals or damages in a manner similar to her rifle. Also, lore-wise, it would seem like both weapons were created by Torbjörn Lindholm and were derived from the same technology as Mercy’s Caduceus Staff as well as Soldier 76’s Biotic Field as evidenced by the picture tweeted out by Blizzard as few days ago prior to Ana’s reveal.

Ana also has the ability to shoot Sleep Darts which tranquilizes enemies for a brief period of time and also has the ability to shut down Ultimate Abilities as evidenced in the reveal trailer above.

Her own Ultimate Ability is called Nano Boost is also shown in the trailer. In keeping up with the character’s support theme, Nano Boost has Ana fire a dart at an Ally and increasing their movement speed, damage and resistance to all attacks.

Additionally, lore-savvy fans out there already probably know that Ana is the mother of an existing character, Pharah. However, their relationship seems far from “ideal” as several in-game quotes suggest. Ana also shares history with several OG Overwatch characters such as Soldier 76, Mercy, Reinhardt and Reaper as well as a rival sniper in the game in Widowmaker, with the latter having had something to do with the loss of her eyesight. More can be found in the Origin Story trailer Below

We’ll guess we’ll have to wait and see how she interacts with her daughter as well as the rest of the Overwatch cast to learn more about her as Blizzard merely states that she will be coming to the game “soon”. Til then, start formulating your strategies now because Ana is sure to be a game changer.
