Pick of the Geek (25 April – 01 May 2016)

An awesome week awaits us geeks this week as it presents tons of stuff to satisfy our hunger!

For those still unfamiliar with Pick of the Geek, its the place where the Geekend Gladiators list down all the important stuff that’s going down in the world of geek for the entire week.

Itching to find-out what we deemed worthy of your time this week? Wait no more as here’s our list!

The movie everyone’s been waiting for finally premieres this week! After countless movies teasing and nudging our heroes to this moment, it finally comes to a head as Captain America will go up against Ironman.

Based on Marvel Comic’s earth shattering story-line, the US government aims to put the heroes in check by creating regulations on the masked superheroes. From there, sides are taken, lines are drawn, and friends become enemies. How much the movie lifts from the comics is yet to be known, but if there’s one thing to be sure about is that Marvel will surely do justice to the source material and the movies.

Game of Thrones returns this week! After leaving fans wanting more, and the excruciating pain of waiting for 10 months to get answers, the show finally returns!

The official synopsis reads: “Jon Snow is dead. Daenerys meets a strong man. Cersei sees her daughter again.” I guess there’s only one way to really know what’s going to happen, and that’s by watching.

The stakes have been raised for the past couple of episodes for Limitless with Sands’ group making noise. In the season 1 finale, Brian and the FBI must now stop Sands and his group from wreaking havoc and causing an international incident involving NZT, all this while Brian suffers from the effects of NZT as his immunity shot begins to lose its effect. Not to mention that Piper’s life hangs in the balance.

Is Laurel really dead? If so, how does this affect our heroes? Those are the questions that Arrow’s latest episode would answer. Meanwhile, Diggle seems to have lost it after the betrayal of his brother in the previous episode. Lance, on the other hand, still hasn’t come to terms with Laurel’s death and asks for the assistance of Nyssa to bring his daughter back. But is Laurel’s death all a ruse, especially after reports of sightings of Black Canary?

Bruce Wayne is back as Batman, and everything feels right again, and for the first time in a long time, Gotham City has a quiet night, which begs the question, what does Batman do on a night like this? And could this all just be a calm before the storm?

justice league 49
By: Geoff Johns, Jason Fabok (DC Comics)

After some delays, the penultimate issue for the Darkseid War arrives this week. How will our heroes fare against Grail? Lastly, could there be a casualty among the ranks of our heroes?

velvet 14
By: Ed Brubaker, Steve Epting (Image Comics)

Velvet is one of the best spy genre books on shelves right now, and its always a pain for readers to have to wait months before the next installment. Luckily, the wait is over, and if its track record is anything to go on, the wait will definitely be worth it. In this issue, Velvet is faced with a choice that might ultimately put her in the cross-hairs of her enemy.

daredevil 6
By: Charles Soule, Matteo Buffagni, Bill Sienkiewicz (Marvel Comics)

An old acquaintance re-enters the life of Matt Murdock in issue 6. And if they’re storied history is anything to go on, this will prove to be another great issue. Hopefully the line “Helloooo Matyoooo” gets in there. If you haven’t figured out who this acquaintance is, I suggest you buy and read the book.

There you have it, a week full of goodies and highlights to get you by.

If we failed to include some on your list, let us know, so we can keep an eye out for them.
