It’s that time once again for our Gladiators to do battle in the Geekend Arena. In this week’s installment Gladiators Gino and Raffy duke it out in a battle of wits on the age-old debate: who would win if Batman and Superman were to fight.
To limit the proceedings and to make things a little more interesting, we have agreed on a couple of rules:
-Both participants would only choose 3 skills or tools/weapons/gadgets to defeat the opponent, provided that whatever skills or tolls they choose would have some basis from across all DC comic books, tv shows, or movies.
-In addition, tools/weapons/gadgets and the like that are allowed do not have to be exclusively associated with the respective heroes. Borrowing items such as Aquaman’s staff or Wonderwoman’s Lasso is permitted.
Also note that we are writing this blind. This means neither of us know which 3 things the other will choose. This is where anticipation and strategy will play a key part. We have written our choices separately to be uploaded at the same time so that there will be no peaking at each others answers.
Gino has chosen to defend Superman, making Raffy for Batman.
Let the games begin!
Introducing first, FIGHTING out of the Fortress of Solitude! The REIGNING, DEFENDING, UNDISPUTED, Heavyweight Champion of Krypton… Kal “Superman” El!!!
- Thor’s Mjolinir
Super-strength: For the simple reason that Superman has to take advantage of his far superior strength over Batman. After all, Batman is only human, and no matter what contraption, suit, gadget Batman uses, Superman can use his super-strength to destory, dismantle and flat-out obliterate it. Plus, it plays a big role in the combo that I would employ.
Thor’s Mjolinir: This is not cheating, by the way. There is precedent to this, and that is the big Marvel/DC crossover a few years back. Superman was able to wield the Mjolinir under dire circumstances i.e., annihilation of both Marvel and DC universe. So under this premise Superman is worthy, and thus, is capable of wielding the Mjolinir. And in this battle, Superman would use this for a number of reasons, but the best part is, in the event that Batman dons his Bat-Armor suit, all Supes has to do is take down Batman and place the hammer on top of Batman and voila, Batman is pinned. And of course, Superman wielding the Mjolinir would mean he gets to shoot lightning bolts towards Batman. Try using your suit, batarang or even try climbing up the ledges and we’ll see how bats get fried by lightning.
Super-flare: Yes, he has this power too. This is equivalent to the kame-kame wave of Goku. Don’t believe me? Check out the recent Superman story-arch where Superman used this super-flare to take down Ulysses (a Superman-like being). The best thing about this is that this ability can even destroy his Kryptonian suit, so whatever Kryptonite suit that Batman uses on Superman would easily be decimated by Superman with this one out-burst. But wait, there’s more, oh yes there’s more. Just recently in Superman #40, the Justice League have discovered that this ppower has the ability to create an EMP (electro-magnetic pulse). So what’s the importance of this? Well, Batman relies on his gadgets, and with that comes the notion that Batman’s gadgets are electronically powered, save for the batarang and grappling hook, thus we once again have a vunerable Batman for Superman to take down.
Proposed combo: Superman would use his super-strength to beat Batman down and set him up for a take-down. Once Batman is down on his back, Superman would use the Mjolinir to pin him down. If not, he could use the hammer to whack Batman. So once pinned down, Batman is at Superman’s mercy, he’ll use his super strength to tear apart whatever armor Batman has. And for the finale, Superman would use the super-flare to end Batman’s misery. Ding-ding-ding! Bruce Buffer, announces the winner: Clark “Superman” Kent!
Stay tuned to find out who wins this battle of titans this Saturday on the Geekend Arena. Think Superman could do better? Sound of on the comments section below.
